Before New Mexico became the Land of
Enchantment, it was called The Sunshine
State because every part of the state
receives sunshine 70 percent of the year
and has low humidity. Santa Fe's 4
seasons are distinct and experience
dramatic summer thunderstorms and
occasional winter snowstorms. The bright
blue skies are free from smoke which
makes the Santa Fe climate one of the
most healthful climates in the United
States.
The average growing season is
150 days. The local vegetation varies
from aspens and tall pines at the higher
elevations to pinons and sagebrush to
the south and east.
Santa Fe is characterized by cool
winters and warm summers. The average
temperature in Santa Fe ranges from a
low of 14?F (-10?C) to a high of 40?F
(4?C) in winter, low of 55?F (13?C) to a
high of 86?F (30?C) in summer. Santa Fe
receives 2-3 inches (50-75 mm) of rain
per month in summer and about 5 inches
(13 cm) of snow per month in winter.
